Virtual Professional Learning Series
The California Center for School Climate (CCSC), offers virtual professional learning courses for K–12 educators and education leaders that are Deep Dives into aspects of Safe and Supportive Learning Environments (SSLE). Each Deep Dive series builds on many topics that may be familiar, such as trauma-informed, restorative, and culturally responsive practices; social and emotional learning (SEL); school climate; and related whole-person topics, with attention to equity throughout.
Safe and Supportive Learning Environments Deep Dive: Cultivating Compassionate Classrooms: Heart-Centered Teaching and Learning
This learning series for educators and education leaders weaves together concepts from Restorative Practices, Culturally Responsive Pedagogy, Healing-Centered Engagement, and Social-Emotional Learning and brings them down to the classroom level. Participants begin the series by reflecting on their educator identity, purpose, and mindsets as a foundation for developing safe and supportive learning environments. From this foundation, participants will learn strategies to align their teaching practices with those that encourage students and adults alike to bring their whole selves to the classroom and to learning. Through active engagement and discussion, participants will gain a deeper conceptual and experiential understanding of how these concepts apply in their day-to-day work.
